IT’s a daily ritual for Lucy to steal something off of Bethany or I’s desk. Usually IT’s finger cuffs from Bethany’s desk drawers (she has her own drawer full of toys to open and steal from), but I was able to catch her in the act of trying to steal SpongeBob SquarePants off my desk.

I’m not sure why she doesn’t grab him by the nose, arms or legs, but that’s Lucy how Lucy does things. I’m not sure what she was distracted by at first, but at the end of the video she hears Bethany outside talking to the neighbor girls who live in the apartment building, so Lucy forgets about SpongeBob and heads to the window.

We normally find her finger cuffs, stuffed animals, bracelets, and more in the hallway, our shoes, or the food bowls.

What defines the past 10 years in music? What NEW band or genre will be remembered? Pop crap (including mainstream rap/hip-hop) and EMO bands? 20-30 years down the road, the teens of today will look back and do everything in their power to forget these 10 years.

I’ve been kicking these thoughts around the past few weeks and still, nothing has jumped out at me saying “HEY GRAEME, YOU’LL STILL LOVE US IN 20 YEARS!” Now, with that said, that could be contradicting, because some great albums came out from bands/artists of previous decades, but no artist or band really stood out that wasn’t around in the 70s, 80s & 90s.  Is it the fact that I’m getting older and not “understanding” the younger generation, or is it the simple fact that new bands are a dime a dozen, locked up in their girlfriend’s jeans crying about failed relationships that they never came close to having? You tell me!

I go through my iPod, Pandora & Last.FM playlists and sure, I have some favorite all time albums that have been released in the past 10 years that could be considered their “best” so far even! Bands I can think of that had great albums: No Doubt, The Prodigy, Tricky, Poe (yes, she released an album, and it was great), Tool, Incubus, David Bowie, Weezer (who gained more popularity than they did in the 90s!), Slipknot (breaking in to mainstream just before 2000), (hed)p.e, Nine Inch Nails, Blink 182, Green Day, Hoobastank, NoFx, System of a Down.  Sure, there are other ones that I didn’t name, but I think you get my point… hopefully, maybe… or phuck, stop reading this already!

There are a few bands that I enjoy that have come around since 2000: OPM, Tubring (formed in 92, but became popular in the undergound last past few years), The Dresden Dolls, Gym Class Heros, The Matches just to name a few.  Don’t get me wrong, these bands are good, in my opinion, but I know they don’t/won’t DEFINE the decade.  I could be wrong, but I don’t see it happening, and it’s nothing against the bands, but they are underground more than mainstream.

Why has this happened? The decline of record sales? The whores of the record companies wanting profit over substance? The internet and social networking sites? Who knows, but bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Lady GaGa, Panic! At The Disco will have short short shelf lives.  No offense to those artists, even if some are emo (and it’s just cool to hate emos, isn’t it?), but unless they really pull something out of their assess, they’re not going to make it another 10 years.

With that said as far as the “new comers,” the decade also brought together the “Super Groups,” and as I’m writing this, maybe this will be how I remember the decade.  Bands like A Perfect Circle (forming in 1999, first album in 2000), Audio Slave (Can’t stand em, but they made an impact), Velvet Revolver, The Transplants, Hellyeah, and StoneSour (yes, they were around pre-00, but the debut album came out in 2002) had some good runs and some good/great breakups, but when you think about it, those artists were already around, made a name for themselves, and attempted to gain a following with their name.  Some Super Groups made some songs that will be classics, others will fade off to our memories, but like “breakthrough” artists, I won’t be able to say “this Super Group” defined the decade.

When all is said and done, maybe I am getting old.  Hell, I may be 28, but the way my body acts sometimes, I feel 78, and maybe I’m not “hip” with the younger generation, or the younger generation needs to get out of their girlfriend’s pants, get in between their girlfriends legs rather, and let their balls drop!

What happened to rock and roll?  Was it flushed down the toilet like a bad twoop? The world may never know.

7 Years Short – Demo

I keep saying to myself I’m going to finish this track… and I’ve been saying this now for over 10 years. After 7 years of procrastination, in 2006, I finally recorded what you’ll hear in this demo track. Yes, IT sounds very much like The Prodigy’s “Serial Thrilla.” Was it intended to be that way? Kinda, but I did get the idea for the melody from Serial Thrilla. When I put everything together, I hadn’t listened to Fat of the Land for a few months, yet the way everything flows shows quite a few similarities.

Hopefully soon, I’ll go back in and fine tune everything, which probably means I’ll just re-record the entire track again. Enjoy!

Mondo #5

A friend of mine, Matt Burns (“‘Sick’ Nick Mondo”) asked if I would put together some background music for his documentary “Unscarred: The Life of Nick Mondo”, released in 2004.  This is one of two tracks used in the DVD.

His life was cut short at 36 years, and everything was looking up for him. Fuck, he had a sweet ass gig coming up Sept 1st w/DJ Jazzy Jeff & MixMaster Mike, that I hope turns out to be a bitchin’ ass tribute show now!

Do you enjoy live concerts, but can’t afford to go, have plans the night the band is coming to town, the band isn’t playing near you, or they are only touring overseas? Do you ever wish you could see an artist play an intimate show, but you’re not able to go? What if the live intimate concert was brought to you via your computer and an internet connection? That’s where Nususa Live comes in, to provide artists to perform for their fans all around the country and world at once, as well as interaction between the artists and the fans.

The idea behind Nususa Live’s streaming concerts is simple.  You watch live concert footage in person, or on video sites like youtube, and you wish you were there OR you were at the concert, but you wish there was a way to have better interaction between the artist and the fan.  A few sites have tried this, but they didn’t continue streaming shows, so fans moved on to the next live concert streaming website.

Nususa Live could be considered one of the next websites for streaming content and we hope to produce concerts by artists  who have a huge following, a small following, and any genre of music is welcome to provide a ‘virtual’ venue performance for their fans around the world.

What’s unique about about live streaming concerts on an intimate level is the fan interaction you can’t always get when seeing an artist live. We have a chat room for fans and artists to talk to one another, request songs, answer questions and we hope to provide phone interaction as well.

What’s the advantage for these live shows? The shows will be free (but feel free to tip the artists and venue for providing their talents to bring you these shows).

This is an alpha release for Qik, so I’m sure the sound and video quality will improve.  I’m not sure how many frames per second there are, but if you have decent lighting, it should look pretty clear, even though it will blur while you’re moving the camera around, but I’m not complaining!  Live streaming on my way home from work (fueled with road rage), here I come!

Hey everyone, just thought I would let you all know, I have just started a brand new podcast called “Social Media, What?”.  Recorded at StudioZeroSeven, it’s the first ever episode of Social Media, What?! Each episode your hosts, Graeme of ITRadio (and FeedThisBlog) and Ian of StudioZeroSeven, will cover different topics and how they impact with Social Media… even if they don’t always know what they’re talking about.

I’m to lazy to write something new, so I just copy and pasted this from Social Media, What?’s ‘About’ section, haha.

“Social Media” and “Social Media, What?” are like art… there are no rules! They are shotgun blasts of information that are splattered on a wall to see what sticks.  People create and upload content for others to see, and the emotions it creates when seen and heard.  The hosts, Graeme and Ian, want to inform our listeners what we have learned in the Social Media world, and hope to also learn from the listeners, as well.

We’re not experts. IT seems that most of the podcasts that are out there dealing with Social Media are geared towards the ‘experts’ in Social Media. There isn’t a show available for the average joe, and that’s where Ian and myself come in.
